Isn’t is beautiful! We got it last Friday. I wasn’t home when it was delivered, so I missed the farewell to the doorstop that previously occupied this space. A new dishwasher. A thing of beauty. A marvel of modern technology. An end to dish-pan hands.
We bought this house just a tad over two years ago. This will be our 3rd Christmas in Downtown Mesa. That was a huge milestone for this statistical boomerang buyer, after spending 5 years in rental purgatory. You know where dishwashers come from in rental purgatory? Craigslist. “Re-furb’ed” if you are lucky. Duct-taped together more likely. The kind of dishwasher that gives you high hopes that the special Cascade pods with the colorful rinse agents artfully integrated into the tablet will caress the dishes into a relatively cleaner state than when the wash cycle started. But alas. They still come out dirtier than when they went in.
So you hand wash.
Then, we bought the house! It’s an historic home, which is a fancy way of describing a house with “potential”. And guess what kind of dishwasher it had? That’s right…the twin to the dishwasher we left behind in rental purgatory. It worked for a while, then we started praying to the Cascade rinse agent gods again for clean dishes. Once again, we were washing by hand.
And paying college tuition.
And the tax bill.
Then there was the 3 month gap between paychecks.
Finally…finally…finally! I saved up enough pennies for this stainless steel miracle that has transformed my kitchen that ALWAYS had dishes in the sink into a hub of culinary adventures. The life-altering effect this machine has had on this family is amazing! I made cookies! And soup! And still the kitchen is spotless. The dishes sparkle like brand new, even without rinse agent!! It’s a modern day miracle!
Our dishwasher. Welcome home.
And here are some homes that might need new dishwasher too! The classic “fixer”!
